Armed Forces

Welcome

Find out more about people who have served in our Armed Forces at NTW Solutions

Hello I’m Tracey, Managing Director of NTW Solutions

At NTW Solutions we take pride in celebrating our Armed Forces. As a company we are committed to supporting our armed forces community and recognise the importance of their service.

In February 2021, NTW Solutions signed the Armed Forces Covenant. This is a formal commitment to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

By signing the covenant, we pledge to uphold principles such as fair treatment, employment opportunities, and access to services for those who have served or continue to serve.

We recognise that the skills and experiences gained from military service are invaluable. Those who have served in the forces bring a huge depth of experience and valuable skills.

We also have people in our teams who are reservists, balancing their work with us and their military duties. We fully support them in accessing training and fulfilling their responsibilities. Reservists contribute diverse perspectives and develop their skills and experiences which they can bring to the workplace.

We actively seek out individuals with armed forces backgrounds in our recruitment, appreciating their dedication, resilience, and problem-solving abilities.

NTW Solutions stands alongside our armed forces community, recognizing their contributions and fostering an inclusive environment. We invite those who have served to consider joining our team, where their skills continue to make a difference.

Meet some of our team

I'm Chris, Porter Supervisor

I joined the Army aged 17 and did my basic training and then my trade training which was as a driver tank transporter. I served in Germany, Kosovo, and in The Gulf. I also did a radio operators course which was about running a mobile operations centre and handling a large amount of information. I left the Army when my daughter was born and settled back in the UK.

I worked as an HGV driver and as a scaffolder until the pandemic. Then I saw an advert to work at the Nightingale Hospital. I saw it as a chance to serve again and to do my bit at a time of national crisis. I loved the job and have stayed and have progressed now to be a Porter Supervisor and still love working here. There’s real variety to the job and you meet so many different people.

I use my Army experience and training every day at work. I like to make a difference and working to support the NHS is something that makes me proud. In the Army you are trained to be professional and follow a chain of command and get on and deliver the job at hand. I’m organised and am always planning out what we need to achieve. And as you can imagine after driving tank transporters even our biggest vans don’t give me much of a challenge.

Probably the biggest similarity is the sense of being part of a family and of working together. In the Army it is drilled into you that you are part of a team and you can’t go solo and you succeed by working together. We absolutely have that here and it’s great to feel part of a strong team.

I'm Michael, Domestic

I signed up at age 17 straight out of school and had a wonderful career in the armed forces which I loved. I served as a Royal Engineer and was trained in repairing airfield damage. I toured Northern Ireland and then Afghanistan where I was involved in the building of camp Bastion. Later on I supervised a team of Afghan builders, and still can speak a little bit of the local lingo. After returning to the UK I worked in bomb disposal all over the country before returning to Afghanistan again to train others in countering improvised explosive devices.

I left the Forces because of a football injury, and I had a few different jobs until I found this one. I now work as a Domestic, keeping hospitals clean and tidy. One thing about people in the Forces is that we can clean absolutely anything really well, and I can always tell other people who have served because of the crisp creases down the front of their trousers and the shininess of their shoes. I’m currently stepping up as a Bank Supervisor and I’m loving working with the wider team.

There is so much that you learn in the Forces which is useful for me in my everyday job, for example you’ve got to have an awareness of other people and your surroundings, so I’m always thinking about working safely. In my role as supervisor, it’s all about motivating people and making them feel part of a team. People think that in the army managing people is about shouting at them and it absolutely isn’t. You don’t create teams by shouting at people, you create an atmosphere where people want to work together to get the job done right.

Between the military and NTW Solutions, our values align completely, the focus on honesty and transparency, as well as being caring and compassionate is absolutely what the teamwork within the Armed Forces is built on. I love working here and I love the people and I have found that sense of belonging which I’ve been missing since I left the Army.

Our pharmacy team ensures patients get the medicine they need, and our workforce team recruits people onto the frontline. We transcribe thousands of important medical letters, provide a lease car service to keep people on the move, and ensure suppliers are paid on time.

We are dedicated to being a great inclusive place to work. We provide a wide range of benefits including a good rate of pay and pension and an extensive range of discounts. We care about health and wellbeing and offer a range of support for the people who work here.

We believe everyone has potential and welcome applications from people from a culturally diverse background, those who are LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, anyone who is unemployed or has been out of work for a period of time, or those who have served in our armed forces.

We were set up by Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust to provide support services. As a limited company we have built a commercial ethos onto our NHS values and now provide our services to other NHS organisations and beyond.

We make a difference to people’s lives and working here is fulfilling and rewarding. Our social purpose is also driving our plans to become net zero and to tackle discrimination and champion equality. Working here means joining a friendly bunch of people dedicated to supporting better care.
