Our Managing Director, Tracey Sopp recently visited the Estates team at Carleton Clinic to see first‑hand the scale of improvements made since NTW Solutions took over responsibility for the site. The visit highlighted just how much progress has been achieved in a relatively short space of time, thanks to careful planning, strong partnership working and a clear focus on improving patient and staff environments.
When NTW Solutions started to provide the estates service it quickly became clear a significant amount of work was needed and this was identified and prioritised over a five‑year period. By making careful use of underspends from other projects, managing budgets tightly, and taking advantage of last‑minute funding opportunities, much of this work has been delivered far sooner than expected. Across the site, windows and doors have been replaced, all the main corridor flooring has been renewed, corridors redecorated and heating improvements completed. Almost all lighting has now been replaced with LED lights, making a real difference to the running costs of the building. Staff safety systems have also been upgraded, with plans in place to install key trackers in the coming months.
Ward‑level improvements have had a particularly positive impact. Tracey was shown a ward where the old timber windows have been replaced, improving warmth and comfort while also reducing energy costs. Outdoor areas have been improved, and a proper staff room created, addressing long‑standing issues, with plans to provide a dedicated staff changing area and personal lockers later in the year. issues such as lockers and changing areas being located in kitchen spaces. These practical changes have made a noticeable difference to day‑to‑day working conditions.
Looking ahead, work will now focus on offices where possible, having prioritised patient areas first. Wayfinding signage is due to be updated, and entrance canopies have already been repainted in a smart grey, creating a more welcoming and modern arrival to the site.
The changes have been huge and this is down to the hard work and dedication of the estates team and has been much appreciated by patients, staff, and visitors alike.
