NTW Solutions has declared itself to be an anti-racist company which means we have committed to take active steps to tackle racism. Part of that has been to roll out training to all staff delivered by local charity Show Racism the Red Card. The charity operates across the UK but was founded in Newcastle and delivers training and activities in schools and beyond.
The charity was founded after Shaka Hislop, Newcastle United goalkeeper, was subject to racist abuse, until the group realised who he was and asked for an autograph. He realised that he could harness the power of football to tackle misconceptions, stereotypes and negative attitudes in society.
NTW Solutions provides a range of services to the NHS and beyond and works across the North East of England and North Cumbria. The training is being delivered to everyone in the company, either online or in person on our main sites. The training covers a range of topics including types of discrimination, bias and privilege.
The training is engaging and interactive and we have had good feedback from staff. This is in particular around the sections where terms and phrases are discussed and people can learn about where they come from and why they are hurtful. The training has been arranged so that everyone has the chance to attend and will continue throughout October during Black History Month.
